Neurorehabilitation

Stroke recovery, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury.

Neurorehabilitation has been transformed by neuromodulation, robotics, and brain-computer interfaces translating from research into routine practice. GCPR 2027 will examine paired vagus nerve stimulation (Vivistim) for chronic upper-limb stroke deficits, robotic gait trainers (Lokomat, Andago) and soft exosuits (Wandercraft Atalante, Ekso Indego, ReWalk Personal 6.0) for ambulation recovery, and epidural and transcutaneous spinal stimulation (Onward ARC-EX, NeuroRecovery Technologies) for motor and autonomic restoration after SCI. Sessions will also cover cognitive rehabilitation after TBI, post-stroke spasticity management, and the integration of implantable BCIs (Synchron Stentrode, Neuralink, Blackrock) into communication and motor rehabilitation pathways.

Focus areas
  • Paired VNS (Vivistim) for chronic upper-limb stroke deficits
  • Robotic gait training: Lokomat, Andago, Ekso Indego, ReWalk Personal 6.0
  • Soft exosuits: Wandercraft Atalante and overground walking outcomes
  • Epidural and transcutaneous spinal stimulation (Onward ARC-EX, ARC-IM)
  • Implantable BCIs in motor and communication rehab: Synchron, Neuralink, Blackrock
  • TBI cognitive rehabilitation and disorders of consciousness protocols
  • Spasticity management: intrathecal baclofen, onabotulinumtoxinA, cryoneurolysis
