Adaptive Sports & Exercise Medicine

Paralympic medicine, adaptive fitness and return-to-play.

Adaptive sports medicine spans the Paralympic athlete, the recreational adaptive participant, and the role of structured exercise as medicine across disability populations. The track will cover Paralympic classification science, autonomic dysreflexia and boosting prevention in SCI athletes, thermoregulation in tetraplegia, and concussion management in adaptive sport. Sessions will examine adaptive equipment provision (racing wheelchairs, monoskis, hand-cycles), exercise prescription in MS, Parkinson disease, and post-stroke populations, and emerging high-intensity interval and resistance protocols. Return-to-play frameworks after stroke, TBI, and orthopedic injury, alongside the integration of GLP-1 agonists with exercise, will be addressed.

Focus areas
  • Paralympic classification science and evidence-based grouping
